Neutral

  • Wario has a rather sub-par approach game, so very patient, defensive play is the best vs him
    • His safest approach option is usually SH RAR bair
  • Bair is the most reliable option to knock him off his Bike. Fsmash can work if well-timed.
  • Don't shield if he's in the air above you, he has the best command grab in the game
  • Spacing is better than shielding in this MU. Retreat with aerials and use Utilt a lot

Advantage

  • Edgeguarding:
    • Stay out of his range while keeping him in your Fair's range and he'll have to Air Dodge or eat a Fair. Learn their habits, punish.
    • Don't forget they have the Bike as a recovery option
  • Juggling:
    • Wario is really good at landing thanks to his air acceleration and Air Dodge so you can't just hit him on reaction, you'll often have to read his next move.
    • Frame traps like FF Uair > Utilt or FF Nair > Utilt are useful to catch the Air Dodge. MALLC helps with this. 

Disadvantage

  • Fair outranges all his aerials, you often won't need to airdodge
  • Be mindful of waft setups like rising fair or nair when at ~60% or higher
  • His Dair is good at catching ledge snaps, so be prepared to space airlsash horizontally to hit him without getting hit when he attempts that
  • His Fsmash and waft kill very early so don't tech/roll near him too often at killing%. (But then again if you techroll away every time and he reads it, he might kill you with Bike or RAR Bair so watch his movement when you choose an option)

Other Notes

  • Shielding helps avoiding his killing options if you're at killing percentages and if you're not near the ledge (he can kill with Fthrow)
  • Buster art is good in conjunction with Utilt and aerials
  • Depending on your opponent's playstyle, Wario can be one of the few characters who can completely camp against Shield art and never get hit... while charging his waft.

  • Up Throw (C)
    • Nothing true, but will lead into an up air or up b at low percent if you don’t act out quickly. DI up or up and left/right.
  • Down Throw (C)
    • Combos into bike, especially if they use it to get you offstage and you don’t do anything. Otherwise DI up and to Wario’s back. Also if he hits you with weak dash attack it will jab lock if you miss your tech so watch out for that.
  • Forward Throw (K)
    • Kills at about 115% from the edge of the stage.
    • Kills at about 180% from the middle of the stage.
  • Up Throw (K)
    • Kills at about 210%
