Neutral

  • If for some reason falco decides to shoot a laser on stage mid-distance or close up, proceed to laugh at him in a mobility of your choice and jump over it.
    • Even long range, it is just better to short hop over it, although power shielding is fine as well.
  • Dash shield against Falco is no where near as good as dash shield against Fox, because of the grab confirms that he gets off of us.
    • D-throw > dash attack at low percents
    • U-throw > U-air at low mid to mid percents
    • Sometimes depending on your art, uthrow > uair can confirm depending on your art, jump/shield.
  • Because of Falco's laughable ground speed, he doesn't really have an answer for spaced bair, especially in buster. He is forced to shield/power shield and keep moving forward.
  •  Falco's will attempt to dash shield at us a lot because they don't really have anything to force neutral or disadvantage onto us so be ready for them to approach with dash shield.
    • Mix up the timings of your aerials and empty hops to keep them guessing and avoid being punished.
  • Falco also doesn't really have an answer for cross up bair and nair due to his the lack of OOS options.
  • Oddly enough, Falco's short hop > shine actually stops our short hop jump ins if they land it. It's not hard to land the move once he sees use in the air after he short hops. A full hop air dodge will cover the move, just be ready to mix up your landing to avoid being punished.
  • The thing to note is how mediocre Falco's approach options actually are. Dash shield dash attack, jab, and empty hop grab are all the character really has. You won't see him use bair in neutral much because he does not want to stale the move whatsoever. It's one of his only reliable kill moves.

Advantage

  • When Falco is sent off stage, remember that his first recovery option is Side B (which will spike you btw), but it shouldn't be to hard to deal with because of our enormous disjointed hitboxes. So proceed to swat the bird away if you get a read on where he is going to Side B.
    • It is also a free Usmash punish if you know what he's going to try and greedily phantasm to stage.
  • Now when he is forced to use Up B, the move is incredibly easy to edge guard.
    •  It is slow, and it takes time to wind up
    • Yes it snaps ledge, but you are easily able to react to when and where Falco decides to use the move, especially dair when he is forced to recover low.
  • On stage when we put him in disadvantage, just remember what his best options are and try your best to predict which defensive option he will rely on.

Disadvantage

  • Now if we are put in disadvantage, this is where it gets funky.
  • Falco's bair is incredibly fast and incredibly strong.
    • It's actually very similar to wolf's bair from brawl.
    • If you are off stage it can kill you around 70% with their rage.
    • On Stage it can kill as early as 110% with rage. 
  • Reading air dodges is incredibly easy for Falco because of nair, and fair which linger, also it‘s easy to react to air dodges with bair due to Falco‘s crazy air mobility (he's a bird after all). 
    • Use air dodges sparingly.
  • Be careful with air slash because if you do not auto snap (Check Tremendo's Twitter) or space it properly, he can and will land a dair spike.
  • When you are put into the air with up tilt or up air, falling nair or up air can be used to keep us shulks in the air.
  • F-Smash is the smash attack you have to worry about the most in terms of raw kill power.
  • Down smash is strong but not as crazy as you think, just be careful with re-grabbing ledge.
  • Back throw is the kill throw you need to worry about. However the throw will only kill if the laser he shoots during the throw actually connects to you
    • You can DI away from the laser to dodge it at higher percents.
